The face of construction is changing with project management

The rise in opportunities, training programs, and project management roles is a major factor in the increase of diversity within the construction industry. They have been a gateway to the industry for many, including veterans and minorities.
In fact, by 2020, more than half of all new businesses will be owned by women or minorities. This trend has also been helped by millennials.

While discrimination is not absent in the workplace, organizations tend to be less likely to hire specific demographics.
Today, 9.1 percent of construction workers are women. However, merely referring to numbers doesn’t make any difference. It doesn’t tell much about the industry’s current state other than its human makeup.

The construction industry still has a large untapped workforce segment, which could prove to be extremely skilled for veterans. Although industry employment is expected to grow by 13% in the next decade, only 6 percent of veterans will end up working as construction workers. It is a shame that so few veterans end up working in construction. Many of them have accumulated experience from active duty.
